PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately secure an output region for illumination light, and to suppress a reduction in an illumination region even when a diameter of an insertion portion is reduced, and corners of a distal end peripheral edge are chamfered in an endoscope illuminating through an optical transmitting path.SOLUTION: An endoscope 1 having an insertion portion 3 in which corners of a distal end peripheral edge are chamfered includes: outer tubes 13, 14 that form an outer circumference of the insertion portion a translucent distal end cover 22 that forms at least the distal end peripheral edge in the insertion portion and an optical transmitting cable 42 that is provided inside the outer tubes and guides light from a light source to a distal end of the insertion portion. The distal end cover includes a front surface 22a formed by chamfering and a rear surface 22b located on an outer tube side, and concave parts 35, 36 having a concave surface are formed on at least one of the front surface and the rear surface.
