A composition comprising red blood cells containing a peptide or protein active agent for use as a medicament for inducing, in the host, immune tolerance to the peptide or said protein active agent. The composition for use according to claim 1, wherein the active agent is a therapeutic peptide, polypeptide or protein that is effective for treating a pathology, wherein said active agent is contained in red blood cells to induce immune tolerance. The composition for use according to claim 2, wherein the therapeutic peptide, polypeptide or protein is an antibody or fragment thereof, a coagulation factor or fragment thereof, an enzyme or fragment thereof or a growth factor or fragment thereof. The composition for use according to claim 2, wherein the active agent is an enzyme for use in enzyme replacement therapy (GTP). The composition for use according to claim 4, wherein the active agent is a lysosomal enzyme. The composition for use according to claim 5, wherein the lysosomal enzyme is an enzyme for replacement therapy (ZTP) in Pompe disease (generalized glycogenosis type II), Fabry disease, or mucopolysaccharidoses of MPS I.7. The composition for use according to claim 6, wherein the lysosomal enzyme is selected from the group comprising the enzyme alpha-glucosidase, laronidase and alpha-galactosidase A or algazidase alpha.
