In order to provide an alternative means for negative pressure wound therapy, which causes less discomfort to a patient, and which is more practical, an absorbent tube for negative pressure wound therapy is provided, which comprises a liquid impermeable sleeve surrounding an absorbent core, the absorbent core comprises a fluid distribution material and a superabsorbent substance, a first connection site for connecting the interior of the liquid impermeable sleeve to a vacuum pump for effecting a negative pressure within the liquid impermeable sleeve, and a second connection site for connecting the interior of the liquid impermeable sleeve to a wound cover so to guide wound exudate into the absorbent core by means of the negative pressure provided by the first connection site, wherein the fluid distribution material is arranged to support a flow of liquid in a from the second connection site to the first connection site. Likewise, an apparatus for negative pressure wound therapy comprising such an absorbent tube is provided.
