Disclosed is a safety pen needle assembly which includes a hub with a needlefixed to the hub,the needle having a distal end, formed for insertion into a patient, and aproximal end. The assemblyfurther includes a shield and a biasing member disposed between the hub andthe shield configured tourge the shield distally. A protrusion extends from at least one of the huband the shield with a channelbeing formed in at least the other of the hub and the shield. The channel isformed to accommodatethe protrusion. The shield is movable from a first position where the needleis exposed to a secondposition where the shield covers the needle. The channel guides the protrusionas the shield movesfrom the first position to the second position. With this arrangement, ashield may be directed to movein a desired path with stability.
