PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a therapeutic agent for ulcerative colitis, having strong effect on repairing damaged tissue of ulcerative colitis and unnecessary to fear adverse effects by steroidal agents.SOLUTION: This therapeutic agent for ulcerative colitis contains Paeoniae Radix, especially dried power of Paeoniae Radix or Chinese medicine containing Paeoniae Radix as an active ingredient. Furthermore, the therapeutic agent contains decocted and dried extract of Paeonia obovata M, Radix, decocted and dried extract of Chinese medicine containing Paeonia obovata M, Radix, especially decocted and dried extract of Chinese multi-drug preparations named in Japanese as Kami-shoyasen (containing Paeonia obovata M, radix, Bupleurum scorzoneraefolium W, Glycyrrhize uralenses E., Cetraria islandica, radix of Angelica sinonensis D., bark of Paeonia suffruticosa A., Cardenia jasminoides E., Menthe arvensis L, and other 2 components).
