An implantable medical lead (100) comprises at least one electric conductor (140-148) running along the lead body (110) and electrically interconnecting at least one electrode (130, 132, 134) at the distal portion (101) of the lead (100) with at least one lead terminal (120) at the proximal portion (102) of the lead (100). The lead (100) also comprises at least one closed channel (150, 152, 154, 156) running along at least a portion of the lead body (110). The closed channel (150, 152, 154, 156) comprises a detection substance. A rupture to the lead (110) will cause the detection substance to leak out of the channel (150, 152, 154, 156) and outside of the lead (100). A lead damage can thereby be confirmed by the absence of or a reduced amount of said detection substance inside the lead (100).
