PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line-of-sight detector capable of detecting a direction of line-of-sight of a viewer in a wide range.SOLUTION: The line-of-sight detector includes: a drive control section 311 and a detection section 312. The drive control section 311 controls a drive system to shift the direction of optical axis of an imaging unit 151 that takes an external environment facing a display screen of the display section. The detection section 312 detects the direction of line-of-sight of a viewer when a viewer's face is included in the image information taken by the imaging unit 151 every time when the drive control section 311 shifts the direction of the optical axis.【課題】広い範囲で視聴者の視線方向を検出する。【解決手段】視線検出装置は、駆動制御部３１１と、検出部３１２と、を備える。駆動制御部３１１は、表示部の表示画面に対面する外部環境を撮像する撮像部１５１の光軸方向を、駆動系を用いて移動させる。検出部３１２は、駆動制御部３１１で光軸方向が移動する毎に撮像部１５１により撮像される画像情報に視聴者の顔が含まれていた場合に、当該視聴者の視線方向を検出する。【選択図】図３
