A method is described for estimating skin thickness over an implanted magnet. A plane is defined that is perpendicular to the skin of a patient over an implanted magnet and characterized by x- and y-axis coordinates. The magnetic field strength of the implanted magnet is measured using an array of magnetic sensors on the skin of the patient. From the measured magnetic field strength, at least one x-axis coordinate in the plane is determined for at least one y-axis zero position on the array where a y-axis component of the measured magnetic field strength is zero. From that, a y-axis coordinate of the at least one y-axis zero is calculated as a function of the at least one x-axis coordinate, such that the y-axis coordinate represents thickness of the skin over the implanted magnet.L'invention concerne un procédé pour estimer l'épaisseur de peau sur un aimant implanté. On définit un plan qui est perpendiculaire à la peau d'un patient au-dessus d'un aimant implanté et caractérisé par les coordonnées des axes x et y. L'intensité du champ magnétique de l'aimant implanté est mesurée à l'aide d'une série de capteurs magnétiques sur la peau du patient. À partir de l'intensité mesurée du champ magnétique, on détermine au moins une coordonnée sur l'axe x dans le plan pour au moins une position zéro sur l'axe y sur la série, où une composante de l'axe y de l'intensité mesurée du champ magnétique vaut zéro. À partir de cette coordonnée, on calcule une coordonnée sur l'axe y dudit au moins un zéro sur l'axe y comme fonction de ladite au moins une coordonnée de l'axe x, de manière telle que la coordonnée de l'axe y représente l'épaisseur de la peau au-dessus de l'aimant implanté.
