The steering system using images of ultrasound or other imaging technologies are appropriate.In one mode, the steering system includes an imaging device that includes a probe for producing images of an internal target in the body as a vessel. One or more sensors are included with the probe. The sensors detect a detectable characteristic related to the needle, and a magnetic field of a magnet inserted with the needle.The system includes a processor that uses data related to the characteristic detected to determine the three-dimensional positioning of the needle.
