Skin surface electrodes are used to treat incontinence. The electrode has at least one conductive region and an outlet through which body fluids can pass without substantially adversely affecting tissue contact at the conductive regions of the electrode. The electrodes are configured for placement in close proximity to the patient''s perineal tissues.
