The adjustment to member (130) is positioned to intersect the longitudinal passageway (101) to engage the surgical object and move relative to the portal member (102) to thereby cause corresponding relative displacement of the inner seal portions (110, 120) of the adjustable seal and facilitate passage of the surgical object through the adjustable seal. The inner seal portions (110, 120) of the adjustable seal are adapted for relative movement between is a first generally approximated position and a second generally displaced position upon movement of the adjustment member (130). The inner seal portions of the adjustable seal may be dimensioned to substantially prevent passage of fluids when in the first generally approximated position.
