PURPOSE: A composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases is provided to synergistically suppress ischemic brain injury in a rat by a combination of adenosine derivatives and melatonin, thereby producing a pharmaceutical composition or a health food for treating neurodegenerative diseases. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases contains a combination as an active ingredient, containing adenosine derivatives of general formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and melatonin. The compound of general formula I is 2-chloro-N^6-(3-iodobenzyl)-adenosine-50'-N-methyluronamide. The adenosine derivative and melatonin are mixed in a weight ratio of 1:1. The neurodegenerative diseases include stroke, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, or Huntington's disease.본 발명은 아데노신 유도체 및 멜라토닌 조합을 유효성분으로 함유하는 퇴행성 뇌질환 치료용 약학 조성물 또는 건강 기능 식품에 관한 것으로서, 상세하게는 본 발명의 상기 조합은 래트에서의 뇌허혈성 손상에 대하여 탁월한 상승적인 저해활성을 나타내므로 퇴행성 뇌질환 치료에 유용한 약학 조성물 또는 건강 기능 식품을 제공한다.
