An apparatus includes an interface and a processor. Theinterface is configured for exchanging signals with: (i) aprobe, which is inserted into a body of a patient andincludes a flexible distal-end assembly, wherein the distal-endassembly comprises a magnetic position sensor and two ormore intra-body electrodes, and, (ii) multiple body-surfaceelectrodes attached externally to the body of the patient.The processor is configured to estimate, based on thesignals exchanged with the probe, a spatial displacement ofthe magnetic sensor between consecutive measurements, and toestimate a position of the distal-end assembly in the bodybased on (i) the signals exchanged with the intra-bodyelectrodes and the body-surface electrodes, (ii) a-prioriknown spatial relationships between two or more of theintra-body electrodes of the probe and (iii) the estimatedspatial displacement of the magnetic sensor.
