The method of introducing moxifloxacin into the middle ear of a mammal, comprising applying the composition to the epidermal surface of the tympanic membrane of the specified mammal, where the composition is aqueous and contains a viscogenic agent and moxifloxacin, where the composition is flowable and has a viscosity of less than 100,000 cps, and where the composition is, after application to the specified eardrum, forms a gel that has a yield strength sufficient to hold the specified composition on the specified drum the membrane, and the specified moxifloxacin moves through the specified eardrum into the space (cavity) of the middle ear. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said viscogenic agent is gellan. The method according to claim 1, wherein said viscogenic agent is N-isopropyl acrylamide with sodium acrylate and n-N-alkyl acrylamide. The method according to claim 1, wherein said viscogenic agent is polyacrylic acid with polyethylene glycol. The method according to claim 1, wherein said viscogenic agent is polymethacrylic acid with polyethylene glycol. The method according to claim 1, wherein said viscogenic agent is polyacrylic acid with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. The method according to claim 1, wherein said viscogenic agent is cellulose acetate-hydrophthalate acetate latex. The method of claim 1, wherein said viscogenic agent is sodium alginate. The method according to claim 1, wherein said viscogen agent is a reversible thermoset gel. The method according to claim 9, wherein said viscogenic agent is poloxamer.
