The invention relates to a highly photo-stable phosphor based Sunscreen composition for the skin. Generally, the sun-protective compositions include an effective amount of one or more UV-B or UV-A/UV-B filters made up of plant extracts' or organically synthesized molecules along with other skin protective ingredients such as antioxidants, vitamins, anti-inflammatory agents, and mixtures thereof. The present invention works on a different principle and not only provides a strict UV protection but also converts the UV radiation to the RED light to provide further benefits for the skin. Suitable UV protectors utilized in this invention include one or more phosphors, especially composed of RED emitting phosphors.
