PURPOSE:To prevent freezing damage of agricultural crops, by blending carrageenan with glucose, sucrose and glycerol in a specific proportion, further adding a nutrient supplementary agent or growth promoter to provide a base, dissolving the resultant base in water to form a coating solution and coating the surfaces of agricultural crops. CONSTITUTION:8pts. carrageenan extracted from red algae is blended with 43pts. glucose, 45pts. sucrose and 3pts. glycerol and then a nutrient supplementary agent) e.g. amino acid or nucleic acid) and a growth promoter (e.g. plant hormone cytokinin promoting growth of buds of agricultural crops) in an amount of preferably about 2pts. is added thereto to provide a base, which is then dissolved in 50-100pts. water to afford a coating solution (preferably a spreading solution is further added). Agricultural crops, such as green tea or vegetable, are subsequently coated with the resultant coating solution to form films and prevent freezing damage of the agricultural crops. When the agricultural crops are coated with the aqueous solution of carrageenan, the films are gradually cured with decreasing temperature to protect the agricultural crops from coldness without affecting growth thereof.
