The present invention relates to a composition for the prevention or treatment of vitiligo, which contains serotonin or a derivative thereof as an active ingredient, and to a method for screening pigmentation inhibitors. More particularly, serotonin facilitates an increase in melanin biosynthesis and the migration of melanin cells by serotonin receptor 2A, and therefore can be effectively used in the treatment of vitiligo.
