A cooling composition comprising at least one compound of the Formula I in which R is selected from the group of moieties consisting of (CH2)nCOOR&Prime；； (CH2)nCONMe2； (CH2)nOR&Prime；； and CHNH2CH3； where n is 1-3 and R&Prime； is independently selected from hydrogen, methyl and ethyl； and R&prime； is selected from the group consisting of the moieties fenchyl, D-bornyl, L-bornyl, exo-norbornyl, 2-methylisobornyl, 2-ethylfenchyl, 2-methylbornyl, cis-pinan-2-yl, verbanyl and isobornyl. The compositions are useful in providing cooling sensations to the skin or mucous membranes of the body.
