An endovascular stent (20) for placement at a vascular injury site, for inhibiting restenosis at the site, comprises a radially expandable, tubular body (22) formed of a lattice of connected filaments (24,26), each filament having outside, side, and inside support surfaces, and a first drug-release layer (32) containing a restenosis-inhibiting drug. The layer coats the outside surfaces, but not the inside surfaces, of said filaments.
