The present invention relates to a method for producing castor oil plants lacking ricin/RCA protein by inserting gene constructs in plant cells, particularly castor oil plant cells, resulting in the production of castor oil plant seeds lacking ricin/RCA. One aspect of the invention relates to providing castor oil plants, and parts thereof, containing said gene construct. The method of the present invention has proven to be effective in generating castor oil plants lacking ricin protein, or with a low expression level of said protein, allowing use of the seeds from the castor oil plant for producing detoxified cakes, for use in animal feed or fertilizers, as well as allowing production thereof in countries with restrictions due to the toxicity of ricin. Thus, a method and kit for identifying transformed plants containing the gene constructs provided herein are also provided.La présente invention concerne un procédé d'obtention de plantes de ricin en l'absence de la protéine ricine/RCA par insertion de constructions géniques dans des cellules végétales, notamment des cellules de ricin, d'où la production de graines de ricin sans ricine/RCA. Dans un aspect, l'invention vise à obtenir des plantes de ricin et des parties de celle-ci, contenant ladite construction génique. Le procédé de la présente invention s'est révélé efficace pour la production de plantes de ricin exemptes de la protéine ricine ou présentant un faible taux d'expression de cette protéine, permettant l'utilisation de la graine de ricin pour la production de tourteaux non toxique, tant pour l'alimentation animale que pour la fertilisation, outre le fait de permettre sa production dans des pays imposant des restrictions du fait de la toxicité de la ricine.
