PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expandable stent having a proximal end and a distal end in communication with one another, and a tubular wall disposed between the proximal end and the distal end.SOLUTION: A tubular wall 25 has a longitudinal axis 45 and a porous surface defined by a plurality of intersecting members 30 comprising a series of longitudinal struts 40 disposed substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the stent. Each longitudinal strut comprises flexure means for substantially complementary extension and compression of a diametrically opposed pair of the longitudinal struts upon flexure of the stent. The stent is expandable from a first contracted position to a second expanded position upon the application of a radially outward force on the stent. The provision of such flexure means in the series of longitudinal struts leads to a very desirable balance of lateral flexibility of the unexpanded stent and radial rigidity of the expanded stent.【課題】相互に連通する基部の端部と末端部の端部と該基部の端部と末端部の端部との間に設けられたチューブ状壁とを具えた膨張可能なステントを提供する。【解決手段】管状壁２５は、長軸方向の軸４５と、ステントの長軸方向の軸に実質的に平行に設けられた一連の長軸方向の支柱４０を備えた複数の交差部材３０によって規定された多孔性表面とを備えている。前記各長軸方向の支柱は、ステントが撓んだ際に、直径方向に対面する一対の前記長軸方向の支柱を実質的に補完し合って伸長及び圧縮させるための撓み手段を備えている。該ステントに半径方向の外向きの力が付与された場合に、ステントが第１の収縮位置から第２の膨張位置まで拡大可能である。一連の長軸方向の支柱にこのような撓み手段を設けることによって、未膨張状態のステントの横方向の可撓性と膨張状態のステントの半径方向の剛性の間に非常に望ましいバランスが得られる。【選択図】図１
