PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mammography apparatus capable of shortening a mammography time and a method for operating the mammography apparatus, as compared with a case where radiographic images and ultrasonic images are sequentially captured. A mammography apparatus scans an ultrasonic transceiver having an ultrasonic imaging region smaller than a radiation imaging region from a scanning start position to a scanning end position to perform ultrasonic imaging. In addition, during this scanning, the ultrasonic transmitter / receiver irradiates the radiation from the radiation source in a plurality of states at different positions in the radiation imaging region to perform radiation imaging. The control device acquires a plurality of captured radiographic images.
