PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for positioning a patient in a radiation therapy by which the period of time for a radiation therapy is shortened and the exposure on the patient is reduced by reducing the number of times of repeated positioning of the patient in the radiation therapy.SOLUTION: The apparatus for positioning the patient includes: a treatment table 10 to which the patient is fixed an X-ray image capturing apparatus 20 for capturing the X-ray image of the patient and a calculator 30 for carrying out a patient positioning process which takes the X-ray image of the patient, compares the image with a reference image, calculates the moving amount of the treatment table when there is positional deviation, and moves the treatment table.
