The cocoa peelings yield a grit mixture and the organic material is added as admixture. The grit is carried away or blown away by wind or storm and by daily handling of the growth medium. The unpleasant smell of the grit obtained from pure bark mulch and pine crust is replaced by a smell of cocoa mark.
