The present invention relates to the cosmetic use, as a deodorant active agent, of hydrophobic silica particles which may be obtained by reaction: i) of at least one porous precipitated amorphous silica bearing surface hydroxyl groups with an alkyltrialkoxysilane of formula (I) below: R1Si(OR2)3 (l) in which R1 denotes a C8 to C20 alkyl group, optionally interrupted in its chain with an O or S atom or with an NH group or a carbonyl group (CO), R2 denotes a C1-C4 alkyl group and ii) optionally at least one aminoalkyltrialkoxysilane of formula (II) below: R4Si(OR3)3 (II) in which R3 denotes a C1-C4 alkyl group, R4 denotes a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C6, or cyclic C3-C5 hydrocarbon-based group, or denotes a C6-C9 aryl or C6-C9 aryloxy group substituted with an amino group NH2 or NHR with R denoting a C1-C4 alkyl radical, in an inert solvent, at a temperature ranging from 30°C to 200°C.
