PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel means capable of substituting a conventionally known preventive / therapeutic agent for a bone metabolic disease. SOLUTION: The bone formation promoter contains an extract of one or more kinds of plants selected from the group consisting of sweet basil, holy basil, common thyme, Italian large leaf and fennel as an active ingredient. This bone formation promoter is useful as a prophylactic and / or therapeutic agent for bone metabolic diseases associated with bone loss.
