Dual cut header assembly 1 comprising a header 2 and a chopper 3, wherein the header 2 is provided to be lifted by an agricultural combine 5 to cut crop material from a field at a first height h1, and wherein the chopper 3 is suspended from the header 2 and provided to cut the crop material at a second height h2 lower than the first height h1, wherein at least one actuator 6 is provided between the chopper 3 and the header 2 for adapting a distance between the chopper and the header, the dual cut header assembly 1 further comprising at least one sensor 11 for measuring a state of the chopper 3, and comprising an actuator steering module 10, 12, 16 connected to said actuator 6 and configured to automatically adapt said distance based on said measured state.
