A patient monitoring system is disclosed that aids in managing patients at risk of forming one or more pressure ulcers. The system includes a patient-wearing wireless sensor that senses the orientation of the patient and wirelessly transmits information indicative of the sensed orientation to the patient monitor. The patient monitor receives, stores and processes the transmitted information. The patient monitor also displays and transmits information indicative of the direction of the patient to help the healthcare provider manage the risk that the patient will form one or more pressure ulcers. The system can identify the patient''s current direction and determine how long the patient has been in the current direction.
