An implantable devicehas a body that is substantially rigidand has an imageable shape. The bodyis further bioabsorbable and may containpermanent metallic elements toaid in its imaging. When the device isimplanted in a resected cavity in softtissue, it can cause the cavity to conformsubstantially to a known imageableshape. The implantable device isfurther imageable due to its attenuationproperties being different fromthose of soft tissue such that theboundaries of the tissue correspondingto the predetermined shape can bedetermined.
