The invention relates to a method for monitoring the medical condition of a patient. The method comprises(a) the specification of a first group of physiological and/or pathological parameters of the patient that are characteristic of the presence of a disturbance of health, wherein the parameters of the first group are to be determined in a continuous manner, and the specification of a second group of physiological and/or pathological parameters of the patient that are characteristic of the presence of a disturbance of health, wherein the parameters of the second group are to be determined in a discontinuous manner；(b) the continuous recording of parameters of the first group；(c) the continuous determination of the necessity to determine values of parameters of the second group on the basis of previously recorded values of parameters of the first group or on the basis of previously recorded values of parameters of the first group and the second group； and(d) the recording of values of parameters of the second group, if in step (c) the necessity of the recording of values of parameters of the second group has been found, at any time at which such a necessity has been found.
