The handheld diabetes managing device can include a blood glucose meter, a processor and first and second communication modules. The secure communication path can include a first secure bidirectional communication link between the handheld diabetes managing device and the insulin pump and a second secure bidirectional communication link between the handheld diabetes managing device and the external computing device.
