A process of preserving tissue from one or more plant, fungus or algae species is provided. The process comprises treating such tissue by subsequent steps of (i) incubation with a weak acid solution； (ii) removal of excess acid； (iii) incubation with an aqueous sugar alcohol solution； (iv) removal of excess sugar alcohol； and (v) drying. Also provided is a textile material having a sheet like structure, and characterized in having an average thickness of about 0.2 – 5mm and comprising about 2% to about 20% sugar alcohol.
