An apparatus and a method for processing a medical image are disclosed. According to one embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for processing a medical image comprises: an image processing unit to extract a blood vessel part and one or more outlines thereof from a first image representing the blood vessel part, and to acquire a second image displaying one or more plaque regions based on the blood vessel part and the at least one outline thereof a display unit to display the second image and a user interface to receive user input to modify the one or more outlines corresponding to one or more among the one or more plaque regions displayed in the second image, wherein the image processing unit may modify the second image based on the user input.
