The present invention relates to the use of propionic acid, butyric acid, or a derivative thereof, for correcting hepcidin deficiency and its effects, whether those which lead to iron overload or those associated with hepcidino-deficiency and persist after iron depletion, including hemochromatosal rheumatism for which there is currently no specific treatment. La présente invention concerne l'utilisation de l'acide propionique, de l'acide butyrique, ou de l'un de leurs dérivés, pour corriger les insuffisances en hepcidine et leurs effets, qu'il s'agisse de ceux qui conduisent à la surcharge en fer ou bien de ceux qui sont associés à l'hepcidino-déficience et qui persistent après déplétion en fer, dont le rhumatisme hémochromatosique pour lequel il n'existe pas actuellement de traitement spécifique.
