The present invention discloses a blood collection device containing an additive that slows down coagulation by inhibiting the contact pathways that produce anticoagulants and thrombin. The additive is an additive for inhibiting contact coagulation pathways of one or more of a factor XI inhibitor, a factor XII inhibitor, a calycain inhibitor, and combinations thereof, each of which is present in an amount effective to control or inhibit the contact pathway to produce thrombin.
