An external preparation that effectively produces the anti-inflammatoryanalgesic effect of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatoryanalgesic agent, and reduces skin irritation on the application siteof the preparation and has an excellent effect on pain associatedwith inflammation such as chronic rheumatoid arthritis,osteoarthritis, and also lumbago is provided. The externalpreparation includes a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesicagent and oxybuprocaine or a pharmaceutically acceptable saltthereof. The external preparation includes the non-steroidalanti-inflammatory analgesic agent at a content of 0.1 to 10 wt% based onthe total weight of the formulation and oxybuprocaine or apharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof at a content of 0.01 to 60wt% based on the total weight of the formulation. The externalpreparation has a dosage form as an external preparation wherein thedosage form is an ointment, a solution, a suspension, an emulsion, alotion, a cataplasm, a tape, an aerosol, or a powder for externaluse.
