A pen needle for use with a drug delivery device includes a hub body having internal threads to receive the drug delivery device. A post is connected to the hub body. A needle is rigidly fixed to the post. The post is separable from the hub body such that the needle is removed with the post. The fluid path is not disturbed by such removal because the entire needle is removed with the post. Removal of only the post and needle reduces the volume of waste required for disposal, thereby increasing the effective capacity of a sharps container.
