A control module is provided in which an output value of the first signal generator and an output value of the second signal generator are combined to form an aggregate output value, and which determines whether the aggregate output value exceeds a predetermined threshold value. A method for operating such an electrosurgical device ensures that the patient is not inadvertently treated with an excessively high electrical output.
