The battery pack assembly or enclosure includes at least one battery having an electrochemical cell and an enclosure having at least one outer wall configured to create a substantially closed spatial volume about the battery. The atmosphere of the spatial volume includes a gas having a thermal conductivity of less than 0.018 W / m 占 폚. This atmosphere of gas provides an insulative layer between the outer wall of the enclosure and the battery. With such an insulation layer, the battery pack assembly can be subjected to autoclaving without damaging the battery.
