A method of treating inflammation, an inflammatory condition, or AIDS-associated neurological disorder in a subject in need of such treatment isdisclosed. The method includes administering to said subject apharmaceutically effective amount of substantially purified hydroxytyrosol ora substantially purified mixture of hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein. Alsodisclosed are compositions for use in practicing the method.
