The invention to which this application relates is apparatus and a method for use in the screening of a target area of the body tissue of a person in order to identify one or more characteristics of the condition of the patient in order to allow, if required, further actions to be taken to deal with or ameliorate the possible effect of any condition which may be detected. In one embodiment the apparatus includes a plurality of antennas provided in a predefined configuration to form an antenna sensing array, said sensing array positionable so as to be directed to the target area of tissue of the patient, and conversion means which allow the data received from the antenna in the sensing array to be processed and combined to provide a representative mapping of the said target area of tissue, and indicating any detected differentials in at least one predefined parameter of the said target area of tissue.
