A skin barrier composition for application on mammalian skin comprising: a solvent comprising any one of a hydrocarbon, a silicone or a mixture thereof； trimethylated silica； and zanthoxylum bungeanum or a solution thereof. Preferably the solvent is a siloxane, in particular hexamethydisiloxane. Also claimed is the use of the composition as a skin barrier applied to mammalian skin and the use of the composition as a skin barrier applied to peristomal skin. The composition is particularly suitable for application onto the skin surrounding a stoma as a skin barrier or positioned between the skin and a skin contacting device or appliance such as an ostomy pouch or gasket.
