A method and apparatus for a light fixture that usescurrent sharing across any one or more LED strings withinthe light fixture. A processor may determine the currentrequirements of the one or more LED strings that are neededto produce a given intensity level. The processor may thenapportion the current generation capability of a powersupply across all active LED strings using time divisionmultiple access (TDMA) whereby each LED string may conductits apportioned current within its allocated time slot tothe mutual exclusion of the remaining active LED strings inany given time period. The processor may transition from aTDMA mode of operation to a direct drive mode of operationwhen the time duration of each of the mutually exclusivetime slots are substantially equal to each other or within apercentage range of each other.
