Apparatus for assessing scarring of cardiac tissue,consisting of a probe and a processor. The probe has one ormore electrodes, which are configured to contact the tissue ata plurality of positions and to sense respective voltages inthe tissue at the positions. Theprocessor receives therespective voltages, and computes a triangular mesh that isrepresentative of a surface of the tissue and that consists ofmultiple triangles having vertices corresponding to thepositions contacted by the one or more electrodes. Theprocessor calculates respective scar areas within the trianglesby comparing the respective voltages sensed at the positionscorresponding to the vertices to a predefined range of thevoltages that is associated with scarring, and computes a sumof the respective areas. The processor compares the sum to atotal area of the triangles so as to assess a degree of thescarring of the tissue.
