PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical obturator for penetrating tissue, which can be installed at least partially in a cannula assembly.SOLUTION: An obturator 14 includes an obturator housing 38 at the proximal end of the obturator, and the obturator housing is configured to be gripped by a user, defines an opening 382 for receiving an endoscope, and includes an endoscope holding mechanism. The endoscope holding mechanism is adapted to fix and stabilize the endoscope inserted therethrough. The obturator housing includes at least one attaching mechanism 383 enabling selective attachment and removal of the obturator housing to and from a cannula assembly 12. The obturator includes an obturator shaft 40 formed integrally with the obturator housing.
