The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating obesity containing ATPase inhibitory factor 1 (IF1). More specifically, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and food for preventing or treating obesity containing, as an active component, IF1 which has an appetite suppressing effect. IF1 according to the present invention exhibits an effect of suppress weight increase and reducing dietary intake without side effects in an obesity-induced mouse model, thereby being very useful as an agent for preventing, alleviating or treating metabolic diseases such as obesity and as an agent for appetite suppression.본 발명은 IF1 (ATPase inhibitory factor 1)을 함유하는 비만의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 더욱 자세하게는 식욕억제 효과를 가지는 IF1을 유효성분으로 함유하는 비만의 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물 및 식품에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 IF1 (ATPase inhibitory factor 1)은 비만이 유발된 마우스 모델에서 부작용 없이 체중 증가 억제 및 식이 섭취량 저하의 효과를 나타내므로, 비만 등 대사성 질환의 예방, 개선 또는 치료제 및 식욕억제제로 매우 유용하다.
