A pet food composition containing a source of myristic acid and beta-carotene in amounts effective to treat arthritis and inflammation associated with arthritis, in which myristic acid is present in an amount of at least 0.3% and beta-carotene is present in an amount of at least 2 ppm (parts per million) .2. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said source of myristic acid contains coconut oil, and said source of beta-carotene contains at least one of tomato marc and powdered carrots. The composition according to claim 2, in which the amount of tomato pomace is from about 2 wt.% To about 8 wt.%; the amount of coconut oil is from about 0.5 wt.% to about 6.0%; and the amount of carrot powder is from about 0.1 wt.% to about 2.0 wt.%. 4. A composition according to any one of claims 1 to 3, comprising: from about 20 wt.% To about 50 wt.% Total protein; from about 15 wt.% To about 50 wt.% Total dietary fiber; from about 3% by weight to about 15% by weight of fat. 5.
