603579 Disclosed herein is the use of a pharmaceutical composition in the manufacture of a medicament for treatment of chronic pain in an individual in need thereof, the pharmaceutical composition comprising: a) a matrix composition comprising i) 10 to 500 mg of an active drug substance, which is an analgesic and ii) at least one polyglycol which is a homopolymer such as polyethylene glycol and/or a polyethylene oxide having a molecular weight of at least 20,000 daltons, said matrix composition having a cylindrical shape optionally with tapered end(s), the length of said matrix being shorter than 8 mm, said matrix being surrounded by b) a coating having one or two openings exposing at least one surface of said matrix, said coating being substantially impermeable to an aqueous medium, wherein said composition is formulated to be administered in a continuous schedule having a 5 to 20 hours interval between individual administrations. In one embodiment the composition further comprising at least one polygiycol, which is a copolymer such as a poloxamer.
