The present invention is concerned with the use of equipotent, low-dose local anaesthetics or derivatives thereof, preferably of lidocaine or derivatives, in a concentration of 0.05% by weight to 0.2% by weight, for treatment or prophylaxis of chronic diseases or (chronic) headaches, more particularly the therapy of chronic or recurrent pain, especially headache, as in the case, for example, of migraine with and without aura, retinal migraine, chronic migraine, stress-type headache, other primary (including juvenile) headache syndromes, or other (chronic) pain or headache disorders. The invention further describes pharmaceutical compositions and associated processes.
