PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing and treating one or more symptoms associated with disorders, to which modulation of the subject's immune system is beneficial, which disorders include, but not limited to, immunologically-mediated diseases such as autoimmune disease, inflammatory disorders and rejection of transplanted organs and tissues.SOLUTION: An isolated population of cells derived from connective tissue, which cells respond to interferon-&gamma； by expressing indolamine-2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), where the cells of the cell population: a) do not express markers specific for antigen presenting cells (APC), b) do not constitutively express IDO, c) when stimulated with interferon-&gamma；, express IDO and d) demonstrate an ability to differentiate into at least two cell lineages.【課題】自己免疫疾患、炎症性疾患、ならびに移植臓器および組織の拒絶反応などの免疫介在疾患をはじめとするこれらに限定されない、患者の免疫系の調節が有益な疾患に関連した1以上の症状の予防、治療法の提供。【解決手段】インドールアミン-2,3-ジオキシゲナーゼ(IDO)を発現することによってインターフェロン-γ(IFN-γ)に応答する、単離された、結合組織由来の細胞集団であって、該細胞集団における細胞が、a)抗原提示細胞(APC)に特異的なマーカーを発現せず、b)IDOを構成的に発現せず、c)インターフェロン-γ(IFN-γ)で刺激したときにIDOを発現し、そして、d)少なくとも二細胞系統に分化する能力を示す、細胞集団。【選択図】なし
